The Translation Programme was established in 1990 and has since become one of the leading such programmes in the region. Applications are now invited for the following tenure-track position(s) in the Translation Programme. Outstanding candidates at Associate Professor or above may be considered for tenure on appointment.
Assistant Professor / Associate Professor / Full Professor (Translation) (PR192/17-18)
Qualified applicants from all areas of Translation and Intercultural Studies will be considered. Preference will be given to those with expertise in one or more of the following fields: computer-aided translation, machine translation, translation and digital culture, and audiovisual translation. Given the Chinese/English orientation of the Translation Programme, a command of Chinese is preferred, although strong consideration will also be given to other candidates who have a suitable profile and vision to flourish in the position.
The appointees will undertake undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and will be expected to play an active role in related research and publication. They will also be responsible for supervision of undergraduate honours projects and postgraduate dissertations at the Master’s and Doctoral level. The appointees are further expected to take on an appropriate amount of administrative duties. Applicants for Full Professor rank should demonstrate strong leadership potential.
Applicants should possess a PhD degree in Translation or other relevant fields, and have research, teaching and administrative experience appropriate to the rank in question; candidates with a strong track record of publications and success in securing external funding (such as GRF or ECS grants) will be prioritised.
Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract of three years commencing September 2018. Re-appointment thereafter is subject to mutual agreement and availability of funding. Outstanding candidates for the rank of Associate Professor or above may be considered for appointment with tenure.
Remuneration package includes retirement/gratuity benefits, annual leave, medical and dental scheme, housing assistance and relocation allowance wherever appropriate.
The applicant is expected to take up duties by 1 September 2018.
Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
