UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI, KENYA
ARE YOU INVOLVED IN TRANSLATION STUDIES IN AFRICA?

THEN YOU SHOULD NOT MISS THE FOURTH SPRING SCHOOL FOR TRANSLATION STUDIES IN AFRICA!
The Departments of Linguistics and Language Practice at the University of the Free State, Afrikaans and Dutch at the University of Stellenbosch and the Centre for Translation and Interpretation at the University of Nairobi, in cooperation with IATIS, are presenting the Fourth Summer School for Translation Studies (SSTSA) in Africa from 29 August to 2 September 2016. The hosts are the University of Nairobi in Nairobi, Kenya.
The Summer School is presented for doctoral/master’s students and/or lecturers in translation/interpreting studies and intercultural communication from all over Africa with the aim of working towards an African research agenda for translation studies. The Summer School features lectures, tutorials, and conference presentations under the guidance of prominent scholars in Translation Studies and Intercultural Communication.
For 2016, Dr Carmen Delgado Luchner from the University of Genève, will be the keynote speaker, addressing the following topics:
• Potential synergies between sociology, development anthropology and interpreting studies: How Pierre Bourdieu and Jean-Pierre Olivier de Sardan can help us understand interpreting in development contexts
• Modelling interpreter training as a development project: North-South cooperation between universities and international organisations in the domain of conference interpreting
This year’s event will also host the official launch of the Association for Translation Studies in Africa (ATSA) and its first general meeting.
As in the past, the SSTSA will be followed by an IATIS Regional Workshop on 3 and 4 September.
