Lecturer/Associate Professor in Interpreting

  Available from 1 June 2015 Principal responsibilities will include convening and delivering teaching on a number of postgraduate modules which provide professional preparation for trainee interpreters. In addition, you will contribute to the management and administration of our postgraduate programmes in interpreting, especially in terms of student recruitment. You will have professional experience of interpreting in conference settings, with at least two working languages, including Chinese and English, and will bring high-level professional links to complement those of the existing team. In addition to holding a postgraduate qualification in interpreting, you will have a keen interest in and understanding of the requirements of interpreter training. You will have a completed PhD (or equivalent) in Translation or Interpreting Studies. You will be required to take on programme management responsibilities. With excellent interpersonal skills, you should be able to communicate effectively with students in both small and large groups. Good organisational and time management skills, along with good IT skills, are also essential. The potential to undertake doctoral supervision is desirable. There will be a formal university interview for this post. Candidates may also be required to make a presentation to the School about their teaching and interpreting. The expected starting date is 1 June but some flexibility is possible if needed.
