Yesterday evening (Sunday), a new neighborhood of Kedumim, Mitzpeh Yishai, was dedicated. As reported by Arutz-7 on Friday, the neighborhood has thirty housing units already occupied, another 70 are under construction, and yet another 400 are in the planning stages.
As more than 600 people celebrated the new neighborhood, several dozen left-wing activists arrived at the Shomron community to protest the continued presence of Jewish towns in Judea, Samaria and Gaza, as well as the unceasing growth in those communities. The protesters were at one point jovially invited by the celebration’s m.c. to come and live in Mitzpeh Yishai.
Professors for a Strong Israel, meanwhile, sent a delegation of their own to participate in the dedication ceremony. “We are determined in our defiance of the so-called ‘road map’ and of the foreign powers that seek to impose it on Israel,” the organization said in a press release. “We declare once more that any limitation on Jewish settlement activity in the Land of Israel is contrary to international law, to human rights, and to the essential interests of the State of Israel.”
The Kedumim dedication was addressed by Housing Minister Effie Eitam (National Religious Party), who said that “all discussion on the Road Map is pointless” as long as the PA fails to fight terrorism. In any event, he asked rhetorically, “Do you expect pregnant mothers to go and have abortions because of the Road Map?”
After reading a list of Jews from the Kedumim region murdered by Arab terrorists, Kedumim municipal head Daniella Weiss declared that the time has come for Israel to “annihilate the enemy… without mercy”, as the current IDF tactics have no more usefulness in halting terrorism.
